Gómez Acquires WebPerform, Extending Firm

Deal provides complementary performance measurement products, services and expertise, continuing Gómez's European market expansion

London/Waltham, MA, February 18, 2003 -- Gómez, Inc., the industry-leading provider of Internet Channel Effectiveness solutions, has acquired WebPerform, a privately held UK-based company that delivers services targeted at understanding and improving delivery to end consumers of commercial Web services.

The deal closely follows Gómez's acquisition of Porivo Technologies, Inc., which provided the company with a 10,000-node network that delivers critical "last mile" measurements from Internet-connected desktops (click here for more details).

WebPerform complements Gomez's unique, synthetic end-to end performance measurement network with technology that enables organizations to trace and correlate actual customer behavior with Internet channel goals.

"The integration of WebPerform into Gómez addresses a gap existing in the performance management space," noted Alex Stein, Gómez's Chief Executive Officer. "By linking synthetic end-to-end performance monitoring with actual customer activity measurements, Gómez can now deliver the most comprehensive picture of the impact site performance has on online customer experience."

Three-year-old WebPerform brings to Gómez the industry's most flexible performance measurement technology, supporting virtually any transaction performed over the Internet Protocol (IP). The acquisition also bolsters Gómez's systems engineering competencies with advanced Web services development skills and performance measurement best practices.

WebPerform's services, moreover, can be delivered by third-parties such as managed network services providers, many of whom have demonstrated a heightened interest in IP infrastructure and applications performance measurement services.

Together, Gómez and WebPerform help IT and business managers continuously benchmark, monitor and improve their online offerings. Only by quantifying and understanding how online customer experience drives customer behavior can companies build improvement plans to ensure that the Internet channel is meeting strategic business objectives.

In this regard, both Gómez and WebPerform deliver advisory services offered by domain experts to help clients understand and interpret Quality of Service data, determining where resources can be optimally invested to drive greater returns on investments from Web-based applications.

Coupled with Gómez's recent purchase of its UK reseller (click here for details), the acquisition of WebPerform highlights the company's substantial commitment to the UK market. Customers throughout Europe will see the entire integrated Gómez product set, spanning Web site functionality, usability, response time and success rate, rolled out over 2003.

"WebPerform's leading-edge performance-oriented products fit hand-in-glove with Gómez's broader customer experience measurement and improvement services," noted Nigel Wilson of Tesco.com, a leading UK retailer and long-standing WebPerform customer. "Site functionality and utility measurement integrated with performance is something we hope to take advantage of in the near term."

Through WebPerform, Gómez also gains vital Web services development and management expertise. WebPerform's Paul Leroux, a veteran industry technologist, is now Gómez's Chief Technology Officer, and brings a vast array of technical development and project management skills to the combined entity. Peter Colaluca, WebPerform's CEO, is now Vice President of Gómez Europe. Peter brings a wealth of technology industry savvy to Gómez, having spent the last 13 years in the performance management market sector where he has successfully sold two companies, the first of which he was a co-founder. Both Leroux and Colaluca are also members of the Gómez executive committee.

"Teaming with Gómez will enable us to better serve our growing UK customer base with a broader and deeper assortment of Internet Channel Effectiveness solutions that we couldn't deliver cost effectively and in quick succession on our own," noted Peter Colaluca. "In Gómez, we also find a kindred spirit, a company dedicated to first-class customer service, that puts Web performance into business context and is willing to back it with domain analysts whose expertise includes critically important Internet application functionality and usability."
