Emageon to Provide Enterprise Medical Imaging Management Solution for Virtua Health

BIRMINGHAM, AL - (April 29, 2003) - Emageon, a leading provider of enterprise solutions for medical imaging, has been selected by Virtua Health, the largest healthcare provider in southern New Jersey and a nonprofit healthcare organization, to provide its enterprise-class software technology solution to manage the storage and distribution of images throughout its enterprise.

“Virtua was seeking a partner that provided a scalable enterprise solution that would address the demanding storage and distribution needs of an IDN our size,” said Linda Reed, VP Technology, Virtua Health. “The technologies available to our medical staff are evolving at an unprecedented pace. A standards-based technology was paramount in our decision so that we can continue to support the acquisition of emerging clinical applications for our patients and physicians. After having done an extensive evaluation of the available options in the marketplace, we concluded that Emageon offered the most comprehensive value proposition. In addition, its flexible business model provided an overall solution that allowed us to stay within our operational budget.”

“We are honored to have been selected by Virtua Health, one of New Jersey’s largest IDNs,” said Milton Silva-Craig, Emageon’s Chief Operating Officer. “Virtua joins a list of more than eight IDNs, representing over 100 sites, such as Kaiser Permanente, Sisters of Mercy, Sutter Health, Allina Hospitals and Clinics, and LibertyHealth that have chosen Emageon. Large hospital systems like Virtua must place more emphasis on the robust implementation of standards and strict adherence to open-systems principals when acquiring new technologies. This approach improves enterprise integration, reduces total cost of ownership and increases access to future innovations.”
