Centice Introduces 2nd Generation Optical Analyzer Modules for Diagnostic Applications Development

Optical Analyzer Modules Feature a Breakthrough Spectroscopy Technology - Multimodal Multiplex Sampling

Research Triangle Park, N.C. - June 22, 2005 - Centice Corporation today introduced its 2nd generation family of customizable spectroscopic analyzer modules based on a patent-pending optical multiplexing technology. This configurable development module enables a new generation of clinical and point-of-care diagnostic devices that virtually eliminate sample preparation and provide unparalleled selectivity through the use of analyte selective nanoparticle technologies.
The Centice analyzer modules are optimized for the analysis of difficult to analyze samples such as tissue sections and whole blood. Centice sensors depart from conventional slit spectrometer technology in that they sample 100-1,000 optical channels simultaneously through a large area aperture – instead of a single signal through a narrow slit – then employ proprietary algorithms to reconstruct the desired information content. "Our Multimode Multiplex Sampling (MMS) results in a tremendous increase in light throughput which leads to improved measurement sensitivity and integration speed, especially when measuring highly scattering samples such as whole blood and diffusely scattering solids such as tissues." said Centice CTO, Prasant Potuluri, PhD. "Working closely with our development partners, we can tune the system design and algorithms to provide exceptional performance for specific sample and analyte characteristics."

"Clinical analyzer design engineers will find the Centice platform particularly useful as a modular, optical building block for clinical analysis applications where sensitivity, speed, resolution, small footprint and cost are important requirements," said Mike Sullivan, Vice President of Operations and Technology. “Our development partners are using these spectroscopic sensors for in vitro and in vivo applications including the measurement of diagnostic markers in whole blood and for monitoring the presence of abnormal cells in tissue samples."

Centice will be demonstrating its new generation sensors at the AACC Meeting being held from July 26th-28th in Orlando, Florida. The Centice 2nd generation analyzer modules are highly customizable optical platforms and are available in many development partner custom configurations, including Raman, fluorescence, and absorbance in the UV, UV-Vis, and NIR ranges. Resolution varies from <1 nm to ~ 5 nm, depending on the spectral range chosen.
