GXS Selected for China Automotive Industry Initiative

GXS Chosen to Drive eAuto Hub Pilot Project

February 7, 2005 – Continuing its customer momentum in China, GXS today announced the company has been recently selected by China Enterprise Communications Limited (China EnterCom) to develop the “eAuto Hub” pilot project. An industry-centric B2B platform, eAuto Hub will connect and integrate OEM and supplier processes in the rapidly expanding Chinese automotive industry.

China EnterCom manages the National Key Enterprise Informationization Project in China, a strategic project jointly sponsored by the former State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC), Ministry of Information & Industry (MII) and Ministry of Science and Technology. Currently, China EnterCom offers network, call center and information management services to large enterprises in China. In addition, China EnterCom provides third-party logistics (3PL) services through China Union, a venture formed through the acquisition and integration of logistic operations from two automotive companies – Jiangling Motors (partnered with Ford Motor Company) and Changfeng Motors (partnered with DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi).

China EnterCom selected GXS based on the strength of the TradingGridSM technology, as well as its global focus and expertise in the automotive industry. Given the rapid growth of Chinese automotive operations and the variability of technology infrastructure, platforms and skills, eAuto Hub will provide a “standards based” integration platform and services to improve supply chain performance. Starting with Jiangling-Ford Motor Company suppliers, China EnterCom’s eAuto Hub proof of concept (POC) will leverage the connectivity and transaction processing capabilities of TradingGrid to deliver “e-enabled” replenishment and logistics processes. Upon completion of the POC, additional suppliers will be added along with additional automotive services.

“In order to provide information exchange services for automotive companies and their trading partners, China EnterCom needs to have the right technology platform in place, which makes GXS’ technology and expertise a critical component to this initiative,” said Cheng Ming Guang, vice president, Strategic Development, China EnterCom. “We selected GXS because of their deep expertise in building these types of solutions for the automotive industry. By leveraging the capabilities of GXS Trading Grid, China EnterCom is able to help our automobile clients to streamline the automotive supply chain and simplify integration efforts.”

China EnterCom will also utilize the GXS Enterprise System integration solution in the eAuto Hub. GXS Enterprise System is a highly scalable B2B gateway that streamlines trading partner transactions, integrates back-end systems, and provides an ideal on-ramp to the GXS Trading Grid. Enterprise System enhances companies’ B2B capabilities by automating business processes with trading partners of all sizes, supporting a wide variety of B2B transactions. The technology maximizes existing infrastructure by providing any-to-any data communication, translation, and integration. In addition, because of a common architecture with the GXS Trading Grid, Enterprise System delivers unmatched communication, translation and integration performance and scalability.

“China EnterCom is committed to fully leveraging its assets to enhance the value it provides to the automotive industry,” said Ben Wong, vice president of Asia-Pacific Operations at GXS. “With GXS technology, the new platform will be able to support China EnterCom’s initial pilot project and will scale as the project is rolled out to hundreds of suppliers in China and worldwide.”

Currently, GXS provides standards-based B2B e-commerce services to all global automotive OEM’s and, over 90 percent of the largest automotive suppliers.
