Emageon To Provide Enterprise Diagnostic Imaging Management Solution

BIRMINGHAM, AL – (April 2, 2003) – Emageon, a leading provider of enterprise solutions for diagnostic imaging, announced today that LibertyHealth in Hudson County, New Jersey has selected Emageon to provide its enterprise-class software technology solution to manage the acquisition, archiving, distribution and viewing of digital images across its Integrated Delivery Network (IDN).  The five-year agreement precedes the opening of a new state-of-the-art campus that will replace LibertyHealth’s teaching hospital, Jersey City Medical Center, and will include Greenville Hospital, also in Jersey City, and Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus.  The new hospital will serve as a regional educational center and showcase for demonstrating the technology to other hospitals in the region.

LibertyHealth joins the ranks of the largest IDNs in the U.S. in selecting Emageon.  IDNs such as Kaiser Permanente, Sisters of Mercy, Sutter Health and Allina Hospitals and Clinics – as well as numerous other hospitals, including Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey – utilize Emageon’s technology for their enterprise image archiving and distribution management.  Under the terms of the agreement, Emageon will begin working with LibertyHealth immediately to begin preparations for infrastructure development and workflow re-engineering efforts to prepare physicians and staff for a more automated means of care delivery.

“Digital imaging does away with the familiar X-ray film and paper as we know it today,“ said Stephen Kirby, LibertyHealth’s COO/CFO.  “In working with Emageon over the past year, we have come to understand the inefficiencies that a film and paper-based imaging service has on patients, medical staff and personnel.  With regard to the new hospital, we will have effectively eliminated a major expense associated with a traditional film storage library and the resource infrastructure to support such a department.  We knew we wanted the technology, but realized our partner must play an active role in helping us realize the benefits.  We are convinced Emageon is the right partner.”

"Emageon is bringing far more to LibertyHealth than just a technology to archive and distribute digital images,” said Richard Bonforte, M.D., LibertyHealth’s Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs.  “The solution will help create greater value – better service to our patients, better service to our referring physicians and more efficient work flow across the entire enterprise – while keeping us more competitive in today's demanding market.  Physicians will now have immediate access to a patient’s clinical images and reports anywhere within the care continuum with tools and capabilities that are state-of-the-art.”

"Emageon is very pleased to have earned LibertyHealth’s business,” said Chuck Jett, Emageon’s CEO.  “It was looking for a partner who could deliver the technology and financial results.  We have a track record of delivering predictable clinical, operational and financial results and LibertyHealth will be no exception.  The ROI associated with digital imaging is no longer guesswork.  As a strategic business partner of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), Emageon will conduct a number of annual educational seminars at the new facility to demonstrate the benefits of its solution to the NJHA membership.
