Research Triangle Park, N.C., and Chelmsford, MAss., Jan. 23, 2004 - Metabolon, Inc., a pioneer in the area of metabolomics research, announced today that it has decided to adopt the CoulArray® technology from ESA, Inc. as an important component in the company's efforts to identify and monitor small molecule cellular biomarkers of disease and disease treatment. The CoulArray® technology is unique in that it uses a series of highly efficient coulometric electrochemical cells to specifically monitor metabolically active small molecule cellular components.

The CoulArray® system can be used to greatly simplify the inherent complexity of metabolomics samples by filtering out mundane, "house-keeping" cellular components. The unique design and properties of the CoulArray® also facilitate easy data analysis of these types of often highly complex samples. In addition, the CoulArray® offers the advantage of being able to distinguish minute changes in metabolomics patterns and components.
