BIRMINGHAM, AL - (January 21, 2004) - Emageon, a leading provider of intelligent visual medical systems, has joined IBM's ISV Advantage Initiative, a program designed to provide independent software vendors (ISVs) with technical and marketing support to help meet the specific information technology (IT) needs of small and medium business (SMB) companies. Customers are seeking solutions that help them better integrate processes and applications internally and externally and allow them to quickly respond to changing market opportunities on demand.

Emageon's Intelligent Visual Medical SystemTM provides a rich suite of products that provides access to visual medical content using advanced visualization tools and specialized workflow through a dynamic user interface. Emageon is collaborating with IBM to deliver this solution on a high availability hardware platform that utilizes IBM's open infrastructure. Working together, Emageon and IBM have implemented these systems in over 30 hospital client sites to date. Emageon believes that by enabling its products on IBM eServerTM xSeriesTM on Linux and FAStT Storage ServerTM, it will expand into the SMB market faster and more effectively than is possible with proprietary platforms.

"We have partnered with IBM to provide open system solutions to our customers, built around its premier products such as WebSphere, and Linux," said Noel Gartman, Emageon's Senior Vice President. "We believe by utilizing the benefits of the ISV Advantage program, our customers will be assured that Emageon is implementing the best technologies available to maximize uptime and minimize total cost of ownership."

"Medium sized businesses are seeking open and dependable solutions that are cost effective and easy to maintain," said Buell Duncan, general manager, ISV & Developer Relations, IBM. "We are pleased that Emageon has joined ISV Advantage and recognize the value of working together to best meet our joint customer needs in the medical imaging and information industry."

The IBM WebSphereTM family includes products that are designed and priced specifically for small and medium businesses -- easy to install and manage, scalable to grow with a business, rich in functionality, and based on open standards to allow integration with existing software and hardware platforms.

Emageon will also work closely with IBM to expand its visibility in target vertical industries through various co-marketing and sales activities.

ISV Advantage is administered by PartnerWorld for Developers, the developer resource for IBM Business Partners. It is a worldwide program designed to help software developers reach broader markets, lower their costs of doing business, and take their products to market faster.
