Gómez Sales Nearly Double, Growing 93% From Same Quarter Last Year

Successful quarter precedes next release of the Gómez Performance Network, which upgrades and integrates unique "Last Mile" measurement capability

Waltham, Mass., October 20, 2003 -- Gaining momentum with each month, Gómez®, Inc., the Internet Performance Management Company, today announced that sales grew 93% in the recently completed third quarter compared with the corresponding period last year.

The results, which represent the company's eighth consecutive quarter of Internet performance measurement revenue growth, come as Gómez prepares to launch the next release of the Gómez Performance Network (GPN), the world's most extensive Internet performance measurement network. With GPN 5.0, Gómez customers can -- using a single Web interface -- provision and analyze Internet performance tests from behind the firewall, from the Internet backbone and from thousands of Internet-connected PCs worldwide.

"Our successful third quarter and the impending release of GPN 5.0 are further indications of the accelerating acceptance of our Internet performance management services," noted Dr. Alex Stein, CEO and president of Gómez, Inc. "By upgrading and integrating our existing Last Mile measurement capabilities with our synthetic measurement infrastructure, GPN 5.0 delivers the most complete and unrivaled picture of Internet performance, helping our customers prioritize infrastructure improvements to meet their ambitious revenue and productivity objectives."

Long-time Gómez customer Akamai Technologies, Inc., Cambridge, MA, is among the earliest adopters of the Gómez "Last Mile" service. "Integratng last mile into GPN will enable us to more holistically capture and diagnose Internet performance issues so we can help our customers optimize delivery of their content to users wherever they may be," said Ramesh Sitaraman, Director of Performance at Akamai. "We especially like the new data analysis tools that provide breakdowns by the agent's geographical location and last-mile bandwidth."

"We like the new methods made available to analyze data. Being able to separate agents into unique clusters and agent speed is great. GPN 5.0 is a definite step forward," added Duke Hong, Research Scientist at Akamai.

Q3 represented a 21% sequential increase in sales from the previous quarter. Among Q3 highlights:

  • New equity funding arrives: Gómez received a $6.1 million equity infusion to accelerate product development, support channel distribution initiatives, as well as ongoing international expansion plans. All current investors participated in the financing round, which was led by new investor AdAstra, a Munich-based independent venture capital firm affiliated with HypoVereinsbank, Germany's second largest bank.

  • New Gómez Performance Network release: GPN 4.0 arrived, making use of the company's next-generation network-centric measurement agent. The Universal Transaction AgentTM (UTA) emulates browser/Web site interaction to capture and report single and multi-step, transactional Web page performance metrics with unrivaled diagnostic precision.

  • Next GPN release in early 2004: GPN Release 5.0 builds on UTA's strengths to integrate Last Mile measurement capability for Web pages and transactions with unparalleled diagnostic precision, consistency and accuracy. Available early next year, with GPN 5.0 Gómez customers will be able to provision and analyze Last Mile Internet performance measurement tests from the same Web interface used for Internet back bone and behind-the-firewall tests. Concurrently, Gómez is seeking Internet users worldwide interested in running its new performance measurement agent.

"We continue to invest heavily in new products and capabilities. At Gómez, this investment directly results from the rich interaction we have with our many clients," Gómez's Stein pointed out.

"It's a pleasure to work with a company that is making constant improvements to its products," noted Jamie Thingelstad, CTO at MarketWatch.com in Minneapolis. "We're getting what we are paying for -- an application service brimming with new features and functionality without having to update our own infrastructure."
