MORRISVILLE, NC (April 2,, 2009) —
Centice Corporation,
the pioneer in drug verification and safety, announced today a partnership with Medi-Span, the most trusted name inside drug applications.
Increased script volume, fewer resources and manual subjective verification methodologies can unfortunately result in greater risk of
medication errors in the pharmacy. PASS Rx is the first and only product that utilizes patented spectroscopy and machine vision sensor
technologies to confirm the accuracy of a retail pharmacy’s dispensed solid dose medications in a matter of seconds. Centice technologies
have additional applicability beyond the verification of solid medications in the pharmacy, and the company has plans to develop future
products for liquid medication verification and counterfeit drug detection.
In addition to sensor verification of the drug type and strength of oral solid medications, PASS Rx will now also incorporate Wolters
Kluwer Health’s Medi-Span Drug Image Database™ v2.0 and Drug Imprint Database™ v2.0 to provide additional valuable content on thousands of
prescription and OTC medications, regardless of form and packaging. This allows pharmacy professionals to also visually verify a drug being
dispensed against high-resolution images and descriptions of the prescribed medication.
The Medi-Span product line is comprised of drug and clinical information databases that can be embedded in a wide range of healthcare
applications, including retail pharmacy, pharmacy benefit management, claims processing and electronic medical records.
Together with Medi-Span’s data, PASS Rx provides a unique comprehensive system for enhanced verification of the medication before it is
given to the patient, scientifically and visually.
“Centice is dedicated to offering solutions for improving patient safety as well as pharmacy quality,” said Ray W. Swanson, President and
CEO of Centice. “We are pleased that PASS Rx now offers our customers even more value for every prescription being verified in the
pharmacy,” he added.
“Wolters Kluwer Health has led the market on a number of drug information-related patient safety measures, including the use of Tall Man
lettering, patient-specific dosing modules and actionable drug interaction information,” said Arvind Subramanian, CEO, Wolters Kluwer Health
Clinical Solutions. “Our partnership with Centice Corporation means that our joint customers now have access to the most powerful drug
verification solutions on the market,” he added.
